Class 6F1

Product Description

6F1 is a selected, well-graded granular fill (down material with fines) for use as a capping layer in accordance with the UK Specification for Highway Works (Series 600). Typical production grading is 0/125 mm (project specs may call for 0/75 mm). The fines content promotes interlock and binding, allowing the layer to be compacted to a dense, load-bearing platform ready for Type 1/Type 3 and subsequent pavement layers. Not free-draining; not a finished running surface. Quantity formula Tonnes ≈ (Length × Width × Depth in metres) × 2.0 Installation notes Place in even lifts (150–300 mm) and compact with suitable heavy plant to the project’s density criterion (e.g., ≥95% MDD) Moisture-condition for optimal binding; avoid placing in standing water Use a separator geotextile over very soft subgrade to prevent fines migration Finish with Type 1/Type 3 before surfacing
