It is typically a fine to medium single-sized stone (commonly 5–10 mm or 10–20 mm) that surrounds the pipe, ensuring even load distribution and reducing the risk of point loading, cracking, or deformation. The material allows water to drain freely around the pipe while preventing sharp stones or debris from damaging the pipe surface. Correct pipe bedding is essential for maintaining alignment, structural integrity, and long-term performance of drainage and utility installations.
